I believe prepping and planning for healthy living is a huge component in making it part of your daily life. Taking a day each week to food prep will save time and money, and having a plan for healthy living will help make your goals attainable. Every Monday I will feature how I food prep each weekend before the work week, as well as my plan for healthy living for the week.
No food prep this weekend. For a good reason- I was in New Orleans for a bachelorette party! I got to see my best friends from college, my sister and made many new friends too. It was AMAZING. Good music, good food, good friends and a few too many drinks 😉
I love experiencing a city through its food and had such an amazing time tasting all the delicious food! I like to indulge on vacation and feel zero guilt about eating foods that may not be best for me. I eat foods that make me feel my best 80-90% of the time and enjoy and savor ‘worth it’ splurges 10-20% of the time. I brought oatmeal and snacks with me, but for the most part meals were indulgent and full of the flavor I was hoping to get while in New Orleans. My favorite meal of the trip was a savory beignet stuffed with pulled pork, grits, eggs, cheese and topped with a jalapeno aioli. YUM.
Now that I am home, I am looking forward to eating all my favorite healthy foods and exercising again! I am looking forward to eating healthy, not because I need to restrict after an indulgent weekend or because I need to detox or go back on a diet. I am looking forward to eating healthy because I truly enjoy eating foods that make me feel great. I cannot wait to get back in the gym and go to yoga, not because I need to burn calories or work off what I ate this weekend. I am excited to workout because I love the way it makes me feel, and how it helps me sleep better, manage stress and improves my digestion. If you feel forced to eat healthy and exercise because you feel guilty for your choices, then it will always feel like you are on a diet. Changing your mindset is such an important part of this journey!
Meal Plan for the week*:
I froze a couple meals and bought certain items (TJ’s chicken sausage, Blissful Eats granola, Double Dose Bakery waffles) to make my life simpler this week since I was unable to food prep. It is not as cost effective as making these items this myself, but worth it so we can have healthy food to eat this week.
*I find I usually stick to the plan probably 80% of the time, if I don’t make exactly what I plan I try to at least use the ingredients.
Exercise plan for the week:
Monday- Gym before work (deadlifts/back/biceps) and hot cardio flow yoga
Tuesday- Circuit workout
Wednesday- Gym before work (leg day)
Thursday- Gym before work (shoulder/chest/triceps)
Friday- Strength Tabata Workout by Fit Foodie Finds
I am going to a bachelorette weekend in Georgia (so excited!) so I have my workouts planned in the beginning of the week and have my rest days while I am gone. I will probably bring some workout gear with me just in case the mood strikes, but I know there will be lots of wine drinking so I doubt I am going to get up early for a workout 😉
Sleep and mental health plan for the week:
My goal is to turn off electronics by 8:30pm and start meditating at nighttime by 9pm. I follow my sister’s guided meditations, you can find more about that on her guest post or at her website. I am working on making meditation a daily habit at nighttime and in the morning, but starting first with nighttime because that is easier for me. The goal this week is 4 nights of listening to the guided meditations before going to sleep.
